Kirk Cox commits to participating in Southwest Virginia debate at Appalachian School of Law

COLONIAL HEIGHTS — Former Virginia House of Delegates Speaker, retired teacher, and candidate for Governor Kirk Cox committed Wednesday to participating in a gubernatorial debate at the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia. Cox’s commitment follows an open letter in Wednesday’s Roanoke Times about the need for a gubernatorial debate in Southwest Virginia. The letter was signed by leaders from 15 different institutions of higher education in Southwest Virginia.

Posting on Facebook and Twitter this morning, Cox committed to participating in the debate as the Republican Party’s nominee for Governor in 2021.

“Dedicating an entire debate in Southwest Virginia to focus on the unique challenges and opportunities of the region makes total sense,” Cox said. “I could not agree more that a gubernatorial debate must be held in Southwest Virginia. The Appalachian School of Law is a perfect venue. Name the date and time and I’m in.”
